Random Picker: A Practical Guide
Use Random Picker to choose one entry from a newline-separated list. Each nonempty line is an entry. Duplicate lines remain separate entries and therefore can give the repeated label more opportunities to be selected.
How to Use Random Picker
- Enter one item per line.
- Review duplicates and remove unintended entries.
- Select Pick one.
- Record the choice or remove it before another draw if your rules require no replacement.
Entries Define the Sampling Pool
The implementation trims each line and ignores empty lines, then chooses one remaining entry. It does not identify people, merge similar names or automatically remove a selected item from the input.
Decide whether duplicate entries represent intentional weighting. If every participant should have one chance, deduplicate and verify the list before drawing.
Worked Example
A list containing Ana, Ben and Ana has three entries. Ana appears twice, so this is not the same pool as a two-person list containing each name once.
For presentation order, List Shuffler is more convenient than repeatedly drawing and manually removing names.
