List Shuffler: A Practical Guide
Use List Shuffler to put newline-separated entries into a random order. It changes sequence rather than choosing only one item. Duplicate labels remain duplicates, so review the input before using the output as an assignment or presentation order.
How to Use List Shuffler
- Enter one item per line.
- Remove unintended duplicates or blanks.
- Select Shuffle list.
- Copy and record the resulting order.
A Permutation of the Entries
The workflow trims lines, removes empty entries and shuffles the remaining array. Each retained entry appears once in the output for that run, including repeated labels that were separate input entries.
A valid shuffle can leave some items in their original positions or even reproduce the original sequence. Randomization does not mean every position must change.
Worked Example
A list of four presentation names becomes a random order of those four entries. Check that the same four entries remain before assigning slots.
If one name was entered twice, both occurrences can appear in the result. Remove that duplication beforehand if it was accidental.
Choose a single entry: use the Random Picker.
Clean exact repeats: use the Remove Duplicate Lines.
Checks and Common Mistakes
- Check the input pool first.
- Do not expect every position to change.
- Keep the agreed output rather than rerunning for preference.
- Use a formal audited process where required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the original order reappear?
Yes. It is one possible permutation.
Does it remove duplicates?
No. Use Remove Duplicate Lines separately if exact repeats are unwanted.
Can it form balanced teams automatically?
It returns an order. Team grouping and balancing criteria need a separate decision.
