Speed Converter: A Practical Guide
Use Speed Converter to convert metres per second, kilometres per hour, miles per hour and knots. Speed combines distance and time, so both unit relationships matter. A converted speed does not establish travel time without a distance assumption.
How to Use Speed Converter
- Enter Value in the source unit.
- Choose From and To carefully.
- Select Convert.
- Read the result with its unit and round only as appropriate for the task.
Distance per Unit Time
One metre per second equals 3.6 kilometres per hour. The mph factor uses the ordinary mile. The knot factor in this implementation is an approximation, so do not expect unlimited precision from the displayed digits.
Speed is different from pace, which is time per distance. A value in minutes per kilometre cannot be entered directly as kilometres per hour.
Worked Example
90 km/h equals 25 m/s. A speed of 60 mph is approximately 96.56064 km/h.
For running pace, 6 minutes per kilometre corresponds to 10 km/h, but that inverse conversion must be calculated separately from the supported speed units.
Align distance units: use the Length Converter.
Align duration units: use the Time Converter.
Checks and Common Mistakes
- Do not enter pace as speed.
- Check miles versus nautical miles.
- Treat knot conversions as approximate at fine precision.
- Use realistic average speed for journey planning.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it calculate travel time?
No. Divide distance by a compatible speed for a separate constant-speed estimate.
What is a knot?
It is a nautical mile per hour; the tool uses its configured numeric factor.
Can I convert acceleration?
No. Acceleration has different dimensions, such as metres per second squared.
