JSON Validator: A Practical Guide
Use JSON Validator to check whether supplied text can be parsed as JSON. A valid result means the syntax is accepted by the current parser. It does not establish that the data is correct, complete, safe or compatible with a particular API.
How to Use JSON Validator
- Paste the JSON text.
- Select Process.
- Read the valid result or parser error.
- Correct the source and repeat until its syntax is valid.
JSON Validate Behavior
JSON syntax uses double-quoted strings and property names, appropriate commas and balanced brackets. The parser may indicate where it encountered a problem, although the original mistake can be earlier.
A syntactically valid value can still have the wrong field names, types or meaning. Duplicate keys and numeric precision also need separate attention. Use schema validation when a specific data contract must be enforced.
Worked Example
{"active":true,"count":3} is syntactically valid JSON. An object with a trailing comma after 3 is not standard JSON.
A field named count containing a string may still be valid JSON even if your API expects a number.
Check syntax or inspect readable structure: use the JSON Formatter.
Choose a compact or readable representation: use the JSON Minifier.
Checks and Common Mistakes
- Keep a source copy.
- Review duplicate keys and large numbers.
- Do not paste credentials unnecessarily.
- Check the destination’s schema separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can it check required fields?
Not without a schema-aware validation workflow.
Can a top-level array be valid?
Yes. JSON is not restricted to objects.
Does valid mean safe to execute?
JSON is data; validity does not authorize code execution or establish trust in its contents.
