Crop PDF: A Practical Guide

Use Crop PDF to choose the area to keep on a selected page. Cropping can remove distracting margins and focus the displayed page on a diagram or receipt. It should not be used as a security substitute for redaction.

How to Use Crop PDF

  1. Choose the PDF and page.
  2. Drag on the preview to mark the area to keep.
  3. Inspect all four boundaries.
  4. Run Crop PDF and review the resized page in the downloaded file.

Crop Area Versus Secure Removal

The visual workflow creates a smaller page around the selected area while copying other pages. Embedded PDF resources can still be retained inside a rebuilt document, so visible cropping does not prove sensitive information has been securely erased.

A crop also changes page dimensions. A tightly cropped receipt may no longer have a standard A4 or Letter canvas. Check what a receiving system expects.

Worked Example

A scanned receipt on a large white sheet can be cropped around the receipt. Leave enough margin to preserve dates, totals and the final line.

For confidential information outside the visible region, use a properly verified redaction workflow rather than relying on a crop.

Remove sensitive visible content using the redaction workflow: use the Redact PDF.

Correct orientation first: use the Rotate PDF.

Checks and Common Mistakes

  • Drag to keep the desired region, not the region to discard.
  • Check page dimensions after processing.
  • Avoid cutting off footnotes or signatures.
  • Do not claim cropped-away data is irrecoverable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cropping apply to every page?

The visual selection targets the chosen page. Verify the result and repeat for other pages as necessary.

Can cropping improve blurry text?

No. It changes the visible region, not the original resolution.

Is cropping safe for hiding personal data?

Do not rely on it for that purpose. Redaction and verification are required when removal must be secure.
